Monthly support plans: check the hourly floor before you quote

A monthly support plan can look simple, but standby time, admin, and unused-hour rules still need a rate floor. Check the math before quoting it.

A support plan should be priced from capacity, not only from the hours the client expects to use. Before quoting a monthly amount, estimate billable work, standby time, admin follow-up, payment fees, and unused-hour terms so the plan still clears your hourly floor.

Separate active work from availability

List the hours you expect to spend on calls, edits, maintenance, messages, reporting, and invoice follow-up. Then add the blocked calendar capacity that keeps you available even when the client does not use every hour.

Price the plan against your floor

Compare the monthly fee with your hourly or freelance rate floor after software, subcontractors, processor fees, taxes, and unpaid admin time. If the plan includes urgent responses or priority scheduling, include that capacity cost before discounting the package.

Put usage rules in the quote

State included hours, overage pricing, response windows, rollover treatment, cancellation terms, and what work is out of scope. Confirm contract, tax, auto-renewal, platform, and local consumer rules before relying on recurring support terms.
